Unit Description

In this unit students will observe and apply with minimal supervision occupational therapy professional skills, competencies and professional reasoning required for occupational therapy practice. Student will integrate, synthesise and apply the knowledge and skills already acquired by participating in authentic occupational therapy practice. Students will implement the occupational therapy process and competencies by gathering, analysis and design and implementation of responsive plans. As this is the final unit in the course, students are required to demonstrate creativity and initiative required in a professional practice environment. Students are expected to work with a high level of personal autonomy and accountability. This unit will assist students transitioning from student to registered occupational therapist. Students will demonstrate through reflecting on their placement activity in relation to the course learning outcomes and the OTBA Competencies. Students will add to the professional portfolio developed throughout the course clearly demonstrating their personal development towards the Australian Occupational Therapy Competency Standards for Practice.

To meet accreditation requirements students must attend the 300 practice education hours as a part of this unit. Practice education experiences will be allocated by CDU. Please refer to the College of Health and Human Sciences website for further details on the requirements for placements and other important information. This unit provides students to demonstrate consolidation of learning across the masters units through a capstone piece of work focused around a portfolio.

3.	Minimum on-site hours of attendance specified for placement completed and verified by supervisor for placement. 4.
