Unit Description

This unit builds on all acquired knowledge from your studies in Paramedicine. This will be the final placement in a 'real-life' setting under the supervision of practicing Paramedics. This will enable students to amalgamate your knowledge and clinical skills and will enable you to confidently lead when managing complex scenarios.

Students will be required to complete 240 hours of placement through St John Ambulance within the Northern Territory.

The expectations during this placement are higher and, although still supervised, your mentor will expect you to take more leadership and evidence-based decision-making skills whilst you combine all theoretical and practical skills learned so far. This will prepare you for the transition to a Registered Paramedic after graduation

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply a holistic approach and evidence-based decision-making skills at complex and uncontrolled scenes, working collaboratively with others in the team.
2.	Communicate effectively and professionally whilst providing care to patients in a variety of contexts and situations.
3.	Apply advance patient assessment skills and clinical reasoning to the presentation of clinical problems of the patient.
4.	Take leadership in clinical decision making and articulate a clinical defence.
5.	Reflect on the development of both personal and professional capabilities including techniques and strategies utilised during placement.
6.	Apply clinically safe competent professional paramedic practice in practicum.
