Field education is an exciting and challenging experience for students where they test themselves in a social work role and develop knowledge, skills and values in the practice environment.
Students are expected to begin their social work practice development by exposure to and participation in social work practice in a field agency. Field Education involves 500 hours of field placement time. Students doing this unit will examine the integration of theory with practice, including critical applications of intervention frameworks, use of general social science knowledge and process analysis of micro skills. Emphasis will be placed on developing a beginning consciousness of the student's social work practice at three levels: self, agency and profession.
Students must have successfully completed SWK302 before undertaking Field Education A.
