Unit Description

This unit continues to equip international students preparing to undertake an undergraduate course at university with a level of English to appropriately move on to a degree level at university. This unit aims to:

Promote knowledge and understanding of English language skills and techniques for future study at university
Develop content knowledge, subject didactic knowledge and knowledge about academic learning and practice in preparation to fit the pedagogical requirements of tertiary study at university
Expand student involvement in critical discourse
Develop oral language and leadership skills through active participation in group assignments and presentations for future study at university.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Demonstrate understanding of the main ideas and supporting details in a range of spoken and written texts.
2.	Critically analyse a range of written texts.
3.	Participate effectively in sustained spoken discourse, including oral presentation on a familiar topic.
4.	Create a range of written texts that communicate ideas and demonstrate awareness of purpose and audience.
5.	Use grammar and syntax to communicate effectively
6.	Demonstrate appropriate range of vocabulary for communication
7.	Conduct research on a familiar topic, evaluating the credibility of sources and presenting findings in a format and manner consistent with recognized academic conventions (including referencing)
