| Throughout this unit students will develop both a theoretical and technical understanding of medially important viral, fungal and parasitic infections, particularly characteristics, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, students will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of infections involving vectors, animal transmission and compromised hosts. There will be an emphasis on the practical components, using authentic activities to develop skills in identification and isolation of viruses, fungi and parasites, to equip students with the skills to work within a diagnostic microbiology laboratory.
