In this unit students will develop an in-depth understanding of the unique role and contribution of occupational therapists in a multidisciplinary mental health team. Learning activities will focus on the application of occupation based strategies to minimise the impact of common mental health problems and trauma on participation in daily life of people of all ages. Students will adopt a Recovery oriented approach, acknowledging peoples strengths, capabilities and self-responsibility to create a meaningful life, when developing occupation-based plans.
Students will participate in Practice Education of 170 hours. During which students will, with moderate supervision: - practice authentic occupational therapy practice, - implementing the occupational therapy process and competencies through a range of activities. This may include assessments, provision services to individuals and or groups. The placement may be in traditional or nontraditional areas of practice.
This unit includes a compulsory on campus intensive of up to 30 hours.
