This unit begins with an examination of some aspects of nutritional biochemistry which are important in the processes of digestion and absorption of different food types. This is followed with the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal, nervous and urinary systems. Aspects of developmental and ageing processes are included. While both units in Anatomy and Physiology are taught by the systems approach, interactions between various body systems are emphasised so that the student can appreciate the importance and complexity of regulating all body functions in an integrated way to maintain homeostasis.
