Unit Description

This unit provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the various technical fields that contribute to humanitarian, emergency and disaster management and climate change adaptation. It includes techniques and protocols for ensuring effective interrelationships and cross-sector cooperation in the challenging context of an emergency and/or disaster.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Evaluate the operations and procedures governing different technical areas of operation in emergency and disaster management.
2.	Critically analyse emergency and disaster management coordination mechanisms in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand.
3.	Analyse and apply regional and international governance frameworks to emergency and disaster practice.
4.	Analyse national and international Disaster Risk Reduction strategies, policies and practices.
5.	Assess the specific needs of vulnerable groups in emergencies and disasters.
6.	Apply strategies, policies and practices to increase the resilience of communities in emergency and disaster contexts.
