Practitioners in mental health often espouse that the cornerstone of optimal outcomes for clients are embedded in the ability of practitioners to develop, maintain and appropriately terminate therapeutic relationships. What exactly are 'therapeutic relationships' and why are they important to the outcome of treatment? This unit is designed to assist learners to explore these critical aspects of developing, maintaining and appropriately terminate therapeutic relationships. Students will develop and utilise advanced knowledge to self-evaluate their skills in negotiating therapeutic relationships. Barriers and strategies to developing and terminating relationships will also be explored.
