Unit Description

Human Computer Interaction Design introduces students to the principles and practices of interaction design within the context of emerging technologies. Students work on a semester long design project to learn a human centred process of interaction design, finding and solving problems in a real life context. Using analysis, design and evaluation tools introduced in the unit, students work in collaborative groups to solve a people technology problem they have identified in their real life context building a proof of concept mobile application prototype.
This unit is reliant on on-line materials. Students must have access to a reliable high-speed broadband connection. Students will also need to have access to a digital camera/video camera and simple digital editing tools for use in the learning activities. Some web programming skills are required to build interactive prototypes.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Understand and apply interactive design principles to software development.
2.	Demonstrate mastery of the design lifecycle through collaboratively developing an idea from a concept to a working prototype.
3.	Identify suitable and ethical methods to evaluate the user experience within the development of a design prototype.
4.	Demonstrate effective communication techniques to reach and maintain a mutual understanding and common goal within a team design context.
5.	Use a variety of reflective strategies to appropriately communicate knowledge in Human Computer Interaction Design to expert and non-expert stakeholders.
