Unit Catalogue

This unit allows students to transition from their academic study of mathematics to the broader areas of mathematics' professional practice by selecting and completing a project that lasts the entire semester under the supervision of an academic supervisor. The project work in the unit allows students to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in any of the mathematics sub-disciplines in various settings, such as simulation-based research, community service, and/or the business world. Students will choose a project topic from a list of options in an area of mathematics which can include but is not limited to Vector Calculus, Non-Euclidean Geometry, Topology, Number theory, Linear Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis, and Problem solutions using appropriate Statistical processes,  in which they need to excel and deepen their understanding and will work in small groups with their classmates. Students will be working mathematically to construct arguments to prove or justify results and use data to support conclusions appropriate to the context.
