Unit Description

Clinical audiologists must adapt their practice in response to clients' individual needs and circumstances. In this unit, students will learn to apply tools and frameworks such as critical self-reflection, cultural responsiveness and trauma informed care to address the diversity within population groups graduates may come across and develop strategies to work with people in positive and strengths-based approaches. Students will study age-related changes to the auditory system and their impact on healthy ageing and the management of hearing loss. Additionally, through case-based learning, they will develop strategies to practice in ways which are inclusive of hearing status (Deaf/deaf), gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, disability and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds including First Nations communities.

2.	Integrate knowledge of ageing and age-related auditory changes to create audiological rehabilitation programs that support healthy aging.
3.	Clearly communicate expert advice to other professionals and/or organisations regarding best practice in inclusivity for people with hearing conditions.
