Unit Description

The unit provides the knowledge and skills required to design and monitor systems with appropriate vibration properties. Students will have the opportunity to investigate the application of theoretical knowledge on dynamics and process control to a variety of situations related to the response to harmonic excitation, general forced response, multiple degree of freedom systems, design for vibration suppression, distributed parameter systems, acoustics and noise barriers. The unit also includes practical components related to vibration testing of mechanical systems, experimental modal analysis and application of finite element methods.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply appropriate practical, software and problem-solving skills to analyse the vibration behavior of Single and Multi-degree of freedom systems including linear, torsional and transverse systems.
2.	Design a mechanical system with required vibration or acoustic properties.
3.	Execute vibration testing to determine the presence of faults in mechanical systems.
4.	Analyse natural frequencies of bodies and systems.
