Unit Catalogue

This unit develops curriculum content knowledge and pedagogical approaches required for effective science education for children 0-12 years. Preservice teachers will build positive attitudes to teaching and learning of science and the ability to reflect and evaluate the impact of their knowledge and attitude on student outcomes for science. Key topics in science will be explored through scientific inquiry pedagogies and learning will focus on "real-world" science applications in context of people's lives including strategies for integrating First Nations knowledge and culture. Effective strategies for formative and summative assessment of science learning to inform differentiated scaffolded teaching for diverse students will be explored, with a particular focus on supporting literacy and numeracy development for learning in science contexts. Effective use of digital resources such as games, online research, and simulated models, will be explored to support practical exploration of science concepts.
