Unit Description

This unit covers a broad aspect of networking that includes the architectures, models, protocols and networking elements. Students will learn to operate Cisco routers and LAN switches, IP addressing schemes and foundational network security concepts. They will also learn to build a simple local area network and troubleshoot network problems.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically analyse the operation of data networks.
2.	Implement a small switched network and a small routed network.
3.	Implement an IP addressing scheme to meet network requirements for s small branch office.
4.	Critically analyse appropriate administrative tasks required for a WLAN.
5.	Design methods to mitigate security threats to a network.
6.	Demonstrate the ability to implement WAN links.
