Understanding how to work with electronic health records and online health data programs is a vital skill for health professionals. This unit provides students with practical knowledge and skills to navigate electronic health records and data for the purpose of efficient and effective health service delivery. This unit will introduce the underpinning principles and theoretical foundations of health informatics and the role of government with respect to health information and communications technology, policy, strategy and funding. High level Information Technology skills are not required to successfully complete this unit, as students will be supported to work with online health programs. Students will explore the role of analytics to interpret health data and consider how it can assist to solve key challenges in healthcare as well as managing health information effectively, ethically and securely.
