Unit Description

This unit is designed to introduce students to several key ideas threaded throughout the various schools of sociology. These ideas have been chosen to complement the various specialities at CDU and thus transferable for students studying social work, nursing, or education. Some of the topics we will cover include media, the family, health, education, race, gender, and sexuality.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Describe the major sociological perspectives and apply to real life events.
2.	Critically analyse theories, theoretical perspectives and limitations.
3.	Understand the differences and similarities between sociological perspectives reflected in other disciplines.
4.	Define, debate and apply the major concepts in analyses of social issues.
