This unit explores different approaches to language planning for revitalisation and maintenance situations. Students will be provided with theoretical and methodological tools to examine key concepts in language maintenance and revitalisation, and consider factors which can lead to language endangerment and language shift. Considering different language ecologies and contexts, students will critically analyse policies, planning models and case histories from Australia and around the world, in order to develop a critical understanding of the processes, practices and philosophies of language planning.
