Assumed Knowledge

It is expected that students will have completed at least the first year of their master program before undertaking this work experience. However, if there is the opportunity to complete aspects of work experience at an earlier stage of their study, students may contact the Unit Coordinator and request that aspects are completed earlier.

Unit Description

This unit consists of a minimum of 450 hours of professional practice experience related to the engineering specialisation of study, i.e. Civil and Structural, Electrical and Electronics or Mechanical Engineering. This unit is part of the Engineering courses Bachelor of Engineering Science/Master of Engineering (HENG01), and the Master of Engineering (SENG01 and SENGG1).

The professional practice experience would normally be completed by a 12-week work placement either on-site or in an engineering office. However, approved alternative professional practice activities or a combination of work placement and approved alternative professional practice activities might also be acceptable under some conditions. Full-time students usually complete the professional practice experience during semester breaks.

This unit does not contribute any credit points toward the completion of the degree, but it is a course requirement that it is completed satisfactorily.
