Unit Description

This unit focuses on creating and deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning systems that are beneficial, ethical and account of human needs and values. It will cover human-centred methods to design and evaluate AI; the ethics of AI data gathering and algorithms; human collaboration and interaction with AI, and, human-centred interpretability, explainability and contestability. Students will explore the potential societal consequences of AI, for different populations, and emerging industry standards in the context of technology advancement.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Apply human-centred Artificial Intelligence (AI) design principles and consider their alignment with industry standards.
2.	Critically analyse the social and ethical implications of contemporary AI solutions and their deployment by industry.
3.	Investigate human needs and values to inform the design and evaluation of AI to solve real-world problems.
4.	Explicate and communicate the potential societal and ethical consequences of AI to different stakeholders.
