This unit will introduce students to the foundation of studies in paramedicine and the evolving role and function of a paramedic whilst at the same time preparing them for further study and work integrated learning. In this unit, students will develop primary clinical skills in a out-of-hospital environment and recognise ambulance equipment. In addition, students will learn to apply principles and practices of self care, mental and physical preparedness for work in challenging and critical situations. Communication skills will be developed with a focus on applying the principles of effective communication and clinical reasoning in a professional practice in paramedicine.
The unit includes a one (1) week intensive on Casuarina Campus. The intensive week is compulsory, and students are expected to meet all costs for travel and accommodation in relation to the intensive.
