In this unit, students will develop effective skills in assessing and caring for individuals experiencing mental health emergencies including substance abuse. They will focus on acute and chronic mental health problems and how to provide care to people from culturally diverse backgrounds, including First Nations People. Students will develop skills which will allow them to apply self-care practices, such as building emotional resilience. Using case studies, students will develop skills in communication, assessment and management that will enable them to effectively problem solve and develop competent decision-making skills in mental health emergencies.
This unit is only available to students enrolled in the WPAR01 Bachelor of Paramedicine.
