Unit Description

In this unit, students will explore the different components of communication that contribute to communication competency. Students will develop skills in the analysis of nondisordered language and communication, including linguistic analysis, phonetic transcription and analysis of language at the discourse level.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically reflect on the components of communication and differentiate between the various domains of speech and language.
2.	Apply linguistic and phonetic analysis to Standard Australian English.
3.	Apply phonetic transcription to non-disordered Standard Australian English.
4.	Apply analysis of language at the discourse level.
5.	Critically examine models and theories related to speech and language acquisition and processing.
6.	Demonstrate the ability to elicit an adequate language sample from a child, critically interpreting and reflecting on related findings.
