Unit Description

This unit encompasses the final clinical placement. Students will attend an 8- week block placement (300 hours) to consolidate their clinical knowledge and skills, caseload management, and professional role. On completion of this unit, students are expected to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and competencies which encapsulate readiness to enter the speech pathology profession, as described in the Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS®), and embodied by the Professional Standards for Speech Pathologists in Australia. Students will also consolidate skills in evaluation of professional issues and research design, culminating in a research project that addresses broader needs within the profession.

1.	Demonstrate advanced ability to critically analyse clinical practice and the broader profession.
2.	Demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge in speech pathology theory and practice.
3.	Synthesise information and apply relevant theories to address a problem or idea within speech pathology.
4.	Demonstrate the ability to plan and design research projects and communicate ideas effectively to varied stakeholders and audiences.
5.	Apply interpersonal skills and cultural knowledge to engage, consult and work effectively with clients, colleagues, stakeholders and the wider community.
