Unit Description

This unit provides an understanding of trauma as it impacts children, young people, parents, families and communities. Trauma experienced by Aboriginal peoples is considered in relation to its influence on safe parenting, protective capacity and healthy relationships. Students will develop knowledge and skills for trauma-informed practice and systems that support the safety of children and young people.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Develop understanding of the neurobiology of trauma.
2.	Demonstrate knowledge of cross-cultural perspectives on trauma and approaches to healing for a child, family and community.
3.	Apply knowledge of trauma to child protection practice.
4.	Critique systemic changes that support trauma-informed practice.
