Unit Description

This unit is designed to develop basic research skills required to undertake tertiary studies in health sciences. The unit familiarises students with basic scientific research design, methodologies, and techniques. Students develop research skills such as critical thinking about sources of information, using indexes and databases to retrieve information, conduct a critical literature review, academic writing and referencing.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Summarise and synthesise information from multiple sources.
2.	Critically appraise and explain the relevance and credibility of academic literature.
3.	Present a report in an academic manner with appropriate structure and referencing, demonstrating a synthesis of knowledge and skills.
4.	Understand and describe the tools of research methodology, design and techniques.
5.	Critically evaluate ethical implications in context to research.
6.	Demonstrate proficiency in a range of effective communication skills.
