Graduate Certificate of Rural and Remote Midwifery Practice (URRMP1)

Course Structure

This graduate certificate is offered as a part-time, one-year course, over two semesters.

In Semester 1 students will complete two units. One is a shared unit with nurses and examines the principles of primary healthcare and a specific focus on working with First Nations people groups. The second considers the challenges of chronic disease and the impact on pregnancy in the context of rural and remote midwifery practice.

In Semester 2 students will complete a single 20 credit unit which focuses on adapting the pre-existing midwifery knowledge and facilitates students to adapt these skills to the context of lower resourced rural and remote practice settings. A wider scope related to women's health in a primary healthcare setting and community based care of the neonate will be included.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 40 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.
