Associate Degree of Engineering (XENG02)

Course Structure

The two-year course consists of 16 coursework units.

The first year of study introduces foundation engineering skills common to all areas of engineering. In the second year, students follow a study path specifically developed for their stream of engineering.

This course is available externally by distance learning if you are not able to attend classes on campus on a regular basis. Access to the internet is required for distance learning, with access to high speed broadband highly recommended.

A candidate must successfully complete units totalling 160 credit points (cp) as detailed below. All units are valued at 10 credit points unless otherwise indicated.

A minimum of 60 credit points must be taken from 200 level units or above.

COURSE CHANGES AND TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS - 2026

Students who commenced the Associate Degree of Engineering prior to 2026 will note there have been some changes.

HIT137 Software Now replaces MAN105 Introduction to Management as core unit from 2025.

All students who have not already completed MAN105 prior to 2026 will be required to complete the core unit HIT137.
Students who have completed MAN105 unit prior to 2026 will not be required to complete HIT137.

Civil and Structural Engineering specialisation

New specialist elective unit ENG367 Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics replaces specialist elective unit ENG267 Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics.
Students who have not completed ENG267 prior to 2026 must complete ENG367.
Students who have completed ENG267 prior to 2026 do not need to complete ENG367.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering specialisation

The unit code HIT235 for Digital Systems and Computer Architecture has been changed to ENG229.
Students who have not already completed HIT235 prior to 2026 will be required to complete the unit under the new unit code, ENG229.
Students who have completed HIT235 prior to 2026 will not be required to complete the unit under the new unit code ENG229.
