This qualification reflects the role of barbers who use a range of well-developed sales, consultation and technical skills and knowledge to provide a broad range of barbering services to clients. They use discretion and judgement to provide client services and take responsibility for the outcomes of their own work.

This qualification provides a pathway to work as a barber in any industry environment, usually a barber shop or salon.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Start Date	Alice Springs 09/02/2026 to 25/11/2026 Palmerston 02/02/2026 to 30/11/2026 Apprentices will receive an individual call-up notification letter. A course timetable/study plan will be provided on application for the course.
Attendance	Alice Springs Mainstream Monday and Wednesday 8:30am to 4:00pm This training is supplemented by 1 day per week work placement in a commercial salon Apprentice 1st year Apprentice Wednesday 8:30am to 4:00pm 2nd and 3rd year Apprentice Monday 8:30am to 4:00pm Palmerston Mainstream Classes: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:30am to 4:00pm Self-paced learning: Thursday 8:30am to 4:00pm This training is supplemented by 1 day per week work placement in a commercial salon Apprentice Stage 1 Apprentice Wednesday 8:30am to 4:30pm Stage 2 Apprentice Tuesday 8:30am to 4:30pm Stage 3 Apprentice Monday 8:30am to 4:03pm

Accreditation
This is a current, nationally accredited qualification from the SHB Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package.

Locations and Study Mode
Delivery at all locations is subject to sufficient demand and resources.

A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) evaluation helps identify any areas where you may need additional support to help you achieve your goals.

To gain entry into SHB30516 Certificate III in Barbering as an Apprentice, candidates require:

To be an Apprentice who has entered a Training Contract with their employer and Australian Apprenticeship Support Network NT.

Students can undertake this course as non-apprentices at the Alice Springs campus; the full-time course program is designed for applicants over the age of 21.

The Training Salon is a simulated work environment and requires students to wear work clothing suited to the industry.

Required Resources
Students will have 24/7 access to assessments and learning resources on CDU's online learning platform Learnline. Before using Learnline however, students will need to ensure that their computer has the correct setup.

Computer and internet access is required to source information and complete assessments.

Students are required to purchase a Skin Deep book pack from the Hairdressing Reception, that will be tailored to the Full Time Barbering course. Approximate pricing will be provided at the information sessions.

This program is delivered over a period of 12 months to 3 years. The length of time to complete this qualification will depend on the location, study mode and/or units selected and will vary depending upon how long a student takes to reach the required competency level.

Student Visa holders must study internally full time
