This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as beauty therapists to provide a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial treatments, body massage and treatments, hair removal, lash and brow treatments, nail and make-up services. This includes consultation with clients to provide beauty advice, recommend beauty treatments and services, and sell retail skin-care and cosmetic products.

These individuals work relatively autonomously and are accountable for personal outputs. Their work involves the self-directed application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment, services, and techniques.

Work is typically conducted in beauty salons and spas.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Accreditation
This is a current, nationally accredited qualification from the SHB Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package.

Entry Requirements Domestic

To gain entry into SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy, candidates are required to:

Have a completed year 12 or equivalent education and have completed SHB30115 Certificate III in Beauty Services
Have successful completion of a pre-enrolment Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and interview is essential for success in this program
A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) evaluation helps identify any areas where you may need additional support to help you achieve your goals.

Required Resources
Students will have 24/7 access to assessments and learning resources on CDU's online learning platform Learnline. Before you can use Learnline however, you'll need to ensure that your computer has the correct setup.

Computer and internet access is required to source information and complete assessments. It is recommended students bring a laptop with them to class so they can access online resources.

Students are required to purchase Skin Deep Learning Resources from the CDU Beauty Salon for the units mentioned below in program content - the cost of each manual is approximately $28. These will be available to purchase during your orientation session on course commencement.

Uniforms

Students are required to purchase a CDU t-shirt - YOU MAKE CDU WOMENS POLO from the CDU Bookshop at the Casuarina Campus in either white or light blue colour - $35.
This must be worn with either black trousers or a knee length skirt with closed shoes.

Alice Springs
Students are required to purchase a Spa Tunic Style No: H630L in Black for approximately $60.00, available from Hip Pocket, 10 Fogarty Street, Alice Springs, NT, phone number: 0402 531 105.
This must be worn with black trousers or a knee length skirt with closed-in shoes.

Beauty Kits
Palmerston
Students are required to purchase a lash lift kit and an eyelash extension kit.
The lash lift kit can be purchased from Elleebana and costs approximately $206.55 - $251.55.
The eyelash extension kit can be purchased from Graft a Lash and costs approximately $215.00.
It is recommended that you also purchase a make-up brush set. Information where to purchase these kits will be provided on enrolment.

Alice Springs
It is recommended that you also purchase a make-up brush set. Information where to purchase these kits will be provided on enrolment.

Estimated completion time: 1 year/s

This program is delivered over a period of 6 months - 3 years. The length of time to complete this qualification will depend on the location, study mode and/or units selected and will vary depending upon how long a student takes to reach the required competency level.
