Apprenticeships/Traineeships: Currently not available as either an apprenticeship or traineeship.

This course covers the knowledge and skills required to depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

It involves ensuring that the vehicle's high voltage (HV) rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is isolated before commencing any service or repair work and calibrating vehicle systems that may need resetting once the energy storage system is reinitialised. In this course, importance is placed on applying RESS and separated extra low voltage (SELV) electrical safety procedures.

This course is most suited to people already working in the automotive industry who wish to upskill in the area of electric vehicles.

As a safety requirement, persons who have a medical device, such as a pacemaker, susceptible to magnetic interference, should not undertake this course.

Accreditation
This is a non-award course and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for nationally recognised units of competency successfully completed.

Locations and Study Mode
Delivery at all locations is subject to sufficient demand and resources.

Entry Requirements Domestic

Students wishing to undertake this course should be working in the automotive sector. They will need underpinning knowledge of automotive electrical systems, electrical system testing procedures and the use of diagnostic equipment.

A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) evaluation helps identify any areas where you may need additional support to help you achieve your goals.

To gain entry into VTP500 Depower Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, candidates require:

Knowledge of automotive electrical systems
Knowledge of electrical system testing procedures
Knowledge of automotive equipment

Students who also need to wear work clothing suited to the automotive industry, such as:

Steel cap boots
Safety glasses
Protective clothing

As a safety requirement, students who have a medical device, including a pacemaker susceptible to magnetic interference should not undertake this course as per AS5732:022 (Sect 2.1)

This program is delivered over a period of 2 days. The length of time to complete this qualification will depend on the location, study mode and/or units selected and will vary depending upon how long a student takes to reach the required competency level.
