This workshop is designed for people who have not used a welder before and covers the following topics:

Personal and work-related safety
Basic understanding of the manual metal welding process
Setting up the welding machine
Preparation of the steel to be welded
Learning to weld at various angles and positions
Identifying various weld faults and their cause

Accreditation
This is a non-award training program and a Statement of Attainment will be issued for nationally recognised units of competency successfully completed.

Delivery is subject to sufficient demand and resources.

Locations: Katherine, Remote

Study Mode: On campus

Subject to demand other locations and modes may become available throughout the year.

Entry Requirements Domestic

A Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) evaluation helps identify any areas where you may need additional support to help you achieve your goals.

An LLND assessment will be conducted prior to, or soon after, enrolment to determine whether students have any LLND support requirements which must be addressed. There are no additional entry requirements.

Required Resources

Students are issued with learning resources for this course and closely supervised during practical activities.

Other resources include:

Provision of adequate drinking water and regular reminders to rehydrate
PPE including:
- Welding helmet
- Welding gloves
- Apron
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection

Students are requested to wear

Steel capped boots
Thick long sleeved shirt
Thick long trousers

This program is delivered over a period of 5 days. The length of time to complete this qualification will depend on the location, study mode and/or units selected and will vary depending upon how long a student takes to reach the required competency level.

Student Visa holders must study internally full time
