This unit examines the ways learning design and digital technologies can provide appropriate and innovative solutions to the training challenges in developmental education. It considers how to address such challenges within coherent frameworks that connect contemporary learning theories through pragmatic teaching and learning practice supported by digital technologies. Such solutions consider culture, context appropriateness, available resources, and sustainability. In particular, the unit focuses on emerging international issues in specific situations where both cultural imperatives and global agendas need addressing. In developing their 'futures-thinking' capacity to address these issues, students will develop an understanding of the changes, problems, and challenges driving the ongoing international digital revolution. Students identify emerging trends and issues and conceive plausible futures where digital technologies with appropriate pedagogy can stimulate and sustain learning and provide solutions to local and national needs.
