Unit Description

Public Health Nutrition provides students with an overview of the key concepts, principles and theories underpinning public health approaches to improving health and reducing diet-related disease at the community and population level. Students will develop their skills in planning, implementing and evaluating public health nutrition initiatives. A critical appreciation of food policy-making, and the role of food and nutrition policy in shaping food systems and protecting and promoting public health will be developed.

1.	Analyse population level food and nutrition issues in Australia and globally by applying principles of public health nutrition.
2.	Critique policies, strategies, and advocacy practices influencing food and nutrition in Australia and globally.
3.	Critically evaluate approaches for addressing public health nutrition issues and priorities for at risk groups within the population in Australia and globally.
4.	Design evidence based programs to address nutrition issues and priority areas affecting populations and at risk groups in Australia and globally.
