Unit Description

This unit focuses on the development of students' architectural design methodologies and processes for the resolution of large scale programmatically complex public buildings through the exploration of space and place, materiality, structure, construction and environmental contexts. Students undertake architectural projects in a process of research, analysis, conceptual design and design resolution communicated using a range of media including two and three dimensional computer modelling programs. Typical projects include: educational facilities (primary, secondary, tertiary), large scale government/civic projects and large scale integrated public building/landscape projects.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Design large scale complex public buildings using appropriate methodologies and processes.
2.	Critically evaluate and apply architectural theory, concepts and principles in the resolution of architectural design projects.
3.	Select and apply appropriate materials and construction techniques and environmental principles for large scale complex public buildings.
4.	Apply communication techniques effectively for the presentation of architectural design solutions.
5.	Examine, critically reflect, revise and refine projects in response to feedback.
