Do you want to grasp the building blocks of music so that you can compose and perform at your best? Do you want to be able to document and communicate your music to share with others?
Knowing the basic building blocks of music helps musicians communicate, perform, and compose. This unit aims to provide you with an understanding of these building blocks, and how to apply this understanding to your own practice.
You will build a strong foundational knowledge of theoretical musical concepts such as pitch, harmony, and rhythm. Alongside theoretical knowledge, you will develop aural skills through the practice of critical listening and ear-training exercises.
You also learn how the knowledge and skills achieved in this unit can be applied in practical contexts. This is done through exercises and challenges such as writing and analysing melodies, reharmonising chords, and exploring rhythmic sequences.
