Unit Description

This unit addresses the key learning area of Technologies for Year 7 to Year10 students. It includes the subject areas of digital technologies and design and technologies. The unit will support preservice teachers to develop their understanding of, and expertise in, the differing pedagogical frameworks and models required for the teaching of digital and design technologies so that they may demonstrate a range of effective strategies for teaching both subjects in the Year 7 to Year 10 Technologies curriculum. By the end of this unit, preservice teachers will be familiar with and competent in digital lesson design, project-based learning, and be able to apply the principles of computational thinking, design thinking and systems thinking to enable their students to create digital and designed solutions in the classroom.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Critically review research and policies informing the Australian Curriculum: Technologies to inform approaches to teaching and learning.
2.	Critically analyse pedagogical models and approaches to the teaching of Year 7 to Year 10 technologies including literacy and numeracy concepts and the safe, responsible, and ethical use of digital technologies in the classroom.
3.	Plan for sequential learning using inquiry models to develop project-based units of work that encourage creativity and innovation with solutions-focused outcomes and apply effective portfolio assessment strategies.
4.	Design strategies for access and inclusivity for First Nations students, culturally and linguistically diverse students, and neurodiverse students in the technologies classroom.
5.	Select a range of assessment practices to evaluate progress, differentiate, provide feedback, and support learning.
