| This unit focuses on developing critical pedagogical content knowledge, mathematical proficiencies and skills related to the complexities of teaching senior secondary mathematics as defined by the Australian Curriculum. From a pedagogical standpoint, preservice teachers will examine and reflect on key ideas, content, and concepts from the Australian Curriculum - Senior Secondary Mathematics, such as functions, calculus, matrices, networks, probability, and statistics. Through knowledge on how the brain learns preservice teachers will develop contextually engaging and student-centred learning sequences, they will study the relationship between content and pedagogy, questioning, assessment and feedback, and construct student-centred and inquiry-based approaches to the teaching of senior mathematics. Preservice teachers will also explore strategies for expanding their pedagogical content knowledge and engaging students in the learning of mathematics using graphics calculators and relevant technologies. |
