This unit introduces preservice teachers to curriculum concepts and pedagogies in the field of English teaching in junior secondary. The unit develops in-depth knowledge of the Australian Curriculum: English Year 7 to Year 10 and models and frameworks related to the specialised discourse of contemporary literary studies in English education, including textual concepts of multimodality and meaning, digital capability, critical and creative practice, and intercultural understanding. Preservice teachers will critically review a range of contemporary strategies to design and align quality teaching and assessment for diverse learners, and to program a secondary English curriculum designed to meet learning outcomes in content strands of literature and language and literacy.
