This unit covers the Primary (F~6) Design and Technologies curriculum area, incorporating curriculum studies and pedagogical approaches with a focus on creating ethical, legal, and functional solutions using technology. Designing, making, and appraising artefacts is a focus of this unit, highlighting the intersection of design thinking, system thinking and problem solving. The unit also provides preservice teachers with an opportunity for developing their project management knowledge and skills for the effective application of digital technology within learning environments focused on Design and Technologies. Topics include probing the scope of technology and its relation to society; approaches to design; design thinking; systems thinking; technology within cultural and local contexts. Preservice teachers will plan, sequence and manage Design and Technologies solutions from conceptualisation to organisation of specific teaching and learning objectives for a set of explicit, sequenced tasks, which include assessment and feedback strategies.
