Unit Description

This unit focuses on the ecology and management of tropical forests and savannas. Current knowledge on the determinants of structure and function of tropical forests and savannas will be described. Management issues in tropical forests and savannas will be examined and the relationship between the ecology and management of savannas will be emphasised.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Understand and apply knowledge of the environmental features that characterise tropical savannas and rainforests.
2.	Understand and apply knowledge of the principle factors determining the structure and function of savannas and rainforests.
3.	Analyse the major management issues affecting the world¿s savannas and rainforests
4.	Demonstate and apply understanding of key management policy tools for savanna management.
5.	Review and analyse scientific literature, synthesis of complex information and experience with scientific writing.
