Unit Description

Global trends and environmental factors have a profound effect on Australia's population health and beyond. This unit introduces environmental health considerations demonstrating how health and illness can be initiated, promoted, or sustained by environmental factors. Concepts such as globalisation are explored, and students are guided to review current global health issues and the role of both Australian and international agencies in addressing these issues. This unit offers students opportunity for international study with options for student exchange and international study tours.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Evaluate the global health and environmental challenges associated with changing patterns of disease and emerging trends in health.
2.	Analyse and discuss the impact of ecological environmental factors on the social determinants of health.
3.	Explore the role of health professionals and organisations in addressing environmental and current health issues.
4.	Apply relevant disciplinary knowledge to concepts relating to global and environmental health issues and propose solutions to address those issues.
5.	Investigate First Nations people's perspectives on the impact of environmental issues on health and well being
