In this unit students propose, develop and implement a research project at the Honours degree level. The nature of the project will be determined by the student's initial proposal, developed in conjunction with a supervisor, and be indicative of the student's capacity to undertake advanced research within their chosen discipline.
In consultation with a supervisor, students choose whether their research outcome will be a written academic thesis or a professional thesis with emphasis on practical implementation of knowledge or a creative work presented with an exegesis (a written outline explaining the context and methodology of the creative work).
Students will, as a result of studying in this unit, demonstrate their abilities to draft a coherent project proposal, apply a set of critical and theoretical parameters from the field and see that proposition through from initial outline to research findings, analysis and critique.
Arts students choosing to pursue creative research and an exegesis will show evidence of a capacity for rigorous analytical assessment and evaluation of their creative work in the context of its exhibition, performance or presentation.
