Unit Description

This unit explores the core principles of perioperative nursing. Students will engage with global, national, and local quality and safety standards that influence perioperative practice for safe person-centred care. Guided by contemporary evidence and research the unit will examine safe practice across the perioperative environment and the role of the perioperative nurse using inquiry based learning and interactive learning approaches.

This unit is only available to students enrolled in the UPERN1 Graduate Certificate of Perioperative Nursing and SCNU01 Master of Clinical Nursing.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Articulate a comprehensive understanding of the core principles that underpin safe perioperative practice.
2.	Critically analyse and apply legal and ethical principles relevant to regulatory frameworks and governing principles within the perioperative environment.
3.	Evaluate human factors that influence perioperative care and patient outcomes.
4.	Critically review the principles of safe practice and their application in the perioperative environment
5.	Appraise the perioperative environments impact on patient safety and the nurses role in promoting quality and safety in practice.
