Unit Description

This unit explores the areas of diversity and inclusion in health care. The environments, in which health professionals practice, are diverse and requires health professionals to be respectful and responsive to the needs of consumers and colleagues. This unit challenges students to explore their own embedded values, beliefs and practices and examine their contribution to a diverse and inclusive health care environment.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.	Articulate the meaning of diversity and inclusion and their influence on promoting quality and safety in health care.
2.	Critically evaluate the importance of diversity in a health care environment for the consumer, the health professional, and the organisation.
3.	Propose the core attributes required to create a culture of diversity and inclusion in their professional context.
4.	Critically appraise how power dynamic shapes inclusive/exclusive practice for diverse consumers, health care professionals and the impact on service provision.
5.	Critically reflect on how professional standards promote diversity and inclusion and how these apply to the individual's context of practice.
