This unit focuses on the critical role of therapeutic relationships in mental health nursing, emphasising the 'therapeutic use of self' as a cornerstone in mental health nursing. The unit also provides nurses working in a mental health environment with an extension of knowledge on the recovery-oriented approach to mental health, emphasising self-determination, hope for the future, and valuing the uniqueness and strengths of each consumer. The unit utilises inquiry-based learning and case studies to create a foundation on which consumers with mental health conditions are treated holistically, and their individual needs prioritised and managed.
This unit is only available to students enrolled in the UMHLN1 Graduate Certificate of Mental Health Nursing and SCNU01 Master of Clinical Nursing.
