Students will attend a 150-hour placement, encompassing paediatric and/or adult clinic settings, to consolidate their clinical knowledge and skills and caseload management in the areas of communication and swallowing disorders. On completion of this unit, students are expected to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours which constitute an overall near-Entry level of competency, as described in The Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASSĀ®).
The unit will also cover curriculum content to support students' knowledge and skills in the following areas: advancing practice and supporting development of the profession, evaluative and research skills for speech pathologists, personal and clinical reflection, entering the profession, and case-based studies in complex communication and swallowing presentations. Students will also demonstrate application of knowledge, skills, and competencies in a live examination context.
Students will be expected to pay for their placement related expenses such as transport and accommodation.
