Are you drawn to observe people and write about the drama of their lives?
This unit provides a lens for you to magnify your observations of human relationships and their dynamics and to read and reflect on the writings and performances of great dramatists before you, so that you can develop your own creative practice and process.
Through workshops and tutorials, you will engage with a range of creative writing techniques to produce your own original work. Through the analysis of dramatic techniques including use of tension, conflict and climax, story arcs and plot lines, and character development and dialogue, you will engage in productive class discussions and make choices to support your own writing.
The workshop style of the learning encourages sharing of creative work and reading scenes aloud to listen to the words and hear how they are received by an audience. You will workshop your own creative works for both live performance and screen performance and test your skills across a range of genres from family drama to comedy, from crime drama to children's fantasy, to engage in the writing process and produce a portfolio of dramatic writing.
