Do you want to master music theory to support your music practice as a music instrumentalist, vocalist or composer?
This unit builds on the concepts covered in Music Tools and Materials 2 to develop a deeper understanding of music theory, and how to apply this understanding to your own practice.
You will advance your knowledge of theoretical musical concepts such as pitch, harmony, and rhythm. Alongside theoretical knowledge, you will refine your aural skills through the practice of critical listening, ear-training, and transcription exercises.
You also learn how the knowledge and skills achieved in this unit can be applied in practical contexts. This is done through exercises and challenges such as writing and analysing pieces of music, reharmonising chord progressions, and exploring advanced rhythmic sequences.
Finally, students will discuss and reflect on the strengths and limitations of the theoretical framework learned throughout Music Tools and Materials 1, 2, and 3.
