How can you get a foot in the door of the creative sector? How can you see what others are doing? How can you meet the people you may want to know for advice, support or opportunities? How can you start making creative work with some guidance?
This unit provides you with structured time and space to get your career in the creative sector underway with the supportive safety of a mentor and discussion shared with peers. You can choose to undertake a work placement in an arts organisation where you can observe creative processes and learn about professional behaviour and expectations in the context of that organisation. Or you can propose to undertake a creative project with an external arts organisation.
For each of these opportunities, it is your responsibility to make the initial industry connection and prepare a project proposal, seeking guidance and approval from the unit coordinator. This unit supports you in planning and implementing your industry project or placement, encouraging learning through reflection. The unit prepares you for work as an independent, professional creative practitioner.
Note: Students negotiate with the unit coordinator regarding an appropriate industry project or placement in the creative sector with an agreed arts organisation and must commit to a schedule of engagement with that organisation involving a minimum of 50 hours.
